The Technologies that Improve the Fuel Efficiency of the 2022 Honda CR-V

The 2022 Honda CR-V boasts impressive fuel consumption figures which are the result of a host of technologies that are integrated in the vehicle at all stages of its development.

An efficient powertrain

The 2022 Honda CR-V comes standard with an engine that uses many technologies, like turbocharging and direct injection to increase the power output and reduce the fuel consumption. The 1.5L engine is paired exclusively with a refined CVT transmission, which is able to vary its ratio at all times inside a large range of possible ratios. This has the benefit of making the CR-V more efficient, since the engine is never lugging to climb a hill or spinning faster than is necessary. This also translates into very low CO2 emissions, which are among the very best of the compact SUV segment and way below the average.

The Real-Time AWD

The 2022 Honda CR-V is available with the Real-Time all-wheel drive system in order to benefit from more traction and stability, especially on slippery surfaces. Unlike most other AWD systems, this one doesn’t have a big negative penalty on the fuel consumption of the vehicle, since it spends most of its time in front-wheel drive mode. Decoupling the rear axle when it isn’t needed allows the efficiency of the drivetrain to be very similar to the entry level model without AWD.

The Econ Mode

The 2022 Honda CR-V is equipped with a button labelled «Econ». This switch allows to choose between the regular and the more economic driving modes. In Econ mode, the accelerator pedal becomes less responsive in order to make it easier to modulate and use as little throttle as needed. The transmission also begins to adapt its operating pattern in order to keep the engine speed as low as possible at all times, thus reducing the fuel consumption. This mode is also the favorite of many drivers due to the smoother feel it can deliver by making it less likely to accelerate more abruptly than was desired.
