Honda Prelude 2026: The Return of an Icon in Electrified Form
September 10 2025,
The Honda Prelude left its mark on a generation of enthusiasts. Now, 20 years after leaving the market, it's back, ready to make its mark on another generation.
The arrival of the new 2026 Honda Prelude therefore marks the return of a legendary name in the world of sport coupes and within the Honda family.
The model, whose new design is spectacular, embodies both the joy of driving and Honda's commitment to an electrified future. Indeed, for the first time in its history, the Prelude adopts a hybrid powertrain, featuring Honda's two-motor system, as well as part of the high-performance chassis from the Civic Type R. The result will be a grand touring experience with a touch of sportiness, but with guaranteed everyday comfort.
A Proven Engine
Under the hood, the 2026 Honda Prelude uses the 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle, direct-injection 4-cylinder engine that is well-known throughout the lineup. This engine will be paired with two powerful electric motors. The combination will produce 200 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque, which will ensure brisk acceleration, but also low fuel consumption.
The big news is that with this powertrain, Honda is introducing the new Honda S+ Shift mode, which simulates gear changes with rev-matching on downshifts, along with an amplified engine sound to strengthen the connection between the driver and the car.
The Style
As for the design of the 2026 Honda Prelude, it is just as striking as its technology. Designed in Japan, the Prelude features a low and sleek silhouette, a long hood, and sculpted fenders covering 19-inch Berlina Black wheels. Its black grille and specific blue Brembo brake calipers add a distinctive touch. The full-width horizontal taillights and the double-bubble roof emphasize the model's sporty proportions, while integrated aerodynamic elements—a front diffuser and a flat rear surface on the hatchback—ensure the model offers balance and stability at high speeds.
On board, the focus is on the driver with perforated leather sport seats in a houndstooth pattern, a flat-bottomed leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Connectivity is comprehensive with a nine-inch high-definition touchscreen featuring integrated Google services, wireless compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto applications, wireless charging, and an eight-speaker Bose audio system. The 60/40 split-folding rear seat and the hatchback configuration provide a practical space for weekend getaways.
Finally, in terms of safety, the 2026 Honda Prelude benefits from the Honda Sensing suite, which includes a host of features (emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot and rear cross-traffic alert, etc.) to keep you safe.
