2027 Honda Civic Type R Unveiled: A Full Rundown of the Updates
October 29 2026,
The 2027 Honda Civic Type R is a hot hatch built for Quebec drivers who want a manual gearbox and a fast front-wheel-drive car. It arrives with a cooler-running nose, a more comfortable cabin and a longer standard-equipment list.
Here is what Honda has confirmed so far, and what it means if you are planning a purchase.
What’s Confirmed for the 2027 Civic Type R
The biggest visible change is up front. The redesigned fascia has a deeper front splitter and a larger grille opening. It reduces turbulence and raises airflow velocity, which improves engine cooling and helps sustain performance during demanding track driving. The engine cover is also redesigned, and it nods to the engines in early Type R models sold in Japan.
The brake pedal now has a yoke spring that removes play in the link. The result is a more direct pedal feel.
The colour palette is three shades: Meteoroid Grey Metallic (new), Boost Blue and Championship White.
Inside: Heated Seats and Ultrasuede

The front sport seats are heated for the first time, with three-level controls placed within easy reach of the knurled climate knobs. Seat upholstery stays red high-friction suede-like material, now with a new perforation design and black striping. The material reduces body slippage in high-G driving, and it breathes in high-contact areas to reduce driver fatigue.
Ultrasuede now covers the upper instrument panel and the upper front door panels. It reduces glare and reflections on the windshield, which helps visibility in demanding driving situations. A diamond-pattern mesh dash panel with a black surround, black air vent and climate knobs, and a darker grey shift knob, console trim and door handles round out the cabin changes. Silver trim sits on the front door panels.
Tech and Safety Added to the Standard List

This is the first Type R with Google built-in. It brings Google Gemini, Google Maps and Google Play, and Gemini holds context across several exchanges so you can keep your hands on the wheel. Alexa built-in is standard too.
Two USB-C ports now sit in the centre console above the standard wireless phone charger. A dual-tone horn is also standard.
Honda Sensing is standard and includes:
- Collision Mitigation Braking System and Forward Collision Warning
- Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist System
- Road Departure Mitigation and Lane Departure Warning
- Blind Spot Information System and Cross Traffic Monitor
- Driver Attention Monitor, Traffic Sign Recognition and Auto High-Beam Headlights
For 2027, every Civic Type R also gets Post-Collision Braking for the first time, to help mitigate damage in multi-crash collisions.
Key Specs at a Glance
The lineup is a single Type R trim, and the hardware that defines it carries forward. The turbocharged 2.0 L four-cylinder K20C makes 315 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, and it is paired with a 6-speed manual that is standard.

The Civic Type R is the only car in its class available exclusively with a manual transmission. If you want to row your own gears, the shifter is the point of the car.
What Matters to Shoppers Now
The 2027 changes target everyday use as much as track days. Heated seats, Gemini voice control and wireless charging make the car easier to live with through a Quebec winter, and the engine and drivetrain stay as they were.
The cooling-focused nose matters if you plan to drive hard. Airflow improvements help the engine sustain performance in demanding track driving, and the yoke spring gives the brake pedal a more direct feel.
Arrival Timing
The 2027 model year marks 30 years of Civic Type R globally and 10 years in North America. Honda’s plan is for the updated Civic Type R to reach dealerships later this fall.
The 2027 Civic Type R Is the Hot Hatch to Plan Around
The 2027 Civic Type R keeps the 315 hp turbo four, the 6-speed manual and the front-wheel-drive layout, then adds heated seats, Ultrasuede, Google built-in and Post-Collision Braking as standard equipment. It is the only car in its class offered exclusively with a manual transmission.
