The Honda CR-V has earned a strong reputation for its efficiency, power, utility and more versus the competition since its introduction in Canada over 20 years ago. To prove this, we compare the 2020 CR-V to the 2020 Subaru Forester.
The exterior of the CR-V gains several advantages over the Forester. The CR-V includes active shutters that control the flow of air into the radiator. As speed increases, the shutters close and reduce airflow, increasing efficiency. Active shutters are nowhere to be found on the Forester. Most CR-V models also include standard LED fog lights, whereas the Forester only makes them available on their two costliest trims.
The CR-V makes 19" alloy wheels standard on half of its trims. All Foresters have wheels smaller than 19", which even includes a model with steel wheels — something you won’t find in the CR-V’s all-alloy wheel lineup.
The 2020 Honda CR-V is the better performer
The CR-V boasts a turbo 1.5L four-cylinder engine that generates 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque that begins at just 2,000 rpm. When these numbers are compared to the Subaru Forester, the CR-V wins. The Forester uses a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that peaks at 182 hp with 176 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. Although close, the CR-V’s max torque develops at a much lower emgine speed, enhancing acceleration and AWD performance in a variety of road conditions.
The CR-V offers better fuel efficiency. The Honda CR-V LX 2WD beats all other CR-V and Forester models with a rating of 8.3/7.0 L per 100 KM. Remaining models on both sides have standard AWD, and the CR-V earns a .3L per 100 KM advantage in city driving. With increased power, acceleration and fuel efficiency, the CR-V is the better overall performer.
Enjoy more cargo capacity in the 2020 Honda CR-V
The Honda CR-V surpasses the Forester in cargo volume. With all seats up, the CR-V offers 1,110 litres of cargo space, exceeding the Forester by 292 litres in four Forester models with a standard sunroof, and 229 litres in two Forester base models without a sunroof. With seats down, the CR-V has 142 more litres of space compared to the majority of Forester models.
